Installation

This section outlines the steps for installing both the Standard and the Enterprise Edition of Lync Server 2013. Standard Edition is generally used for small deployments, whereas Enterprise Edition offers significant benefits for redundancy and a scalability. The largest difference between the Standard Edition and the Enterprise Edition of Lync Server 2013 is that the Standard Edition uses SQL Server Express, previously known as MSDE, whereas Enterprise Edition uses a full version of SQL 2008 or 2012. In addition, a Standard Edition Server can also host the Persistent Chat service whereas an Enterprise Edition front-end pool requires persistent chat to be hosted on a dedicated server.
