Configuring a Front End Server Enterprise Edition Pool

Enterprise Edition pools can contain up to 20 Front End Servers to provide scaling and high-availability to Lync services. The steps that follow outline how to configure these pools in Topology Builder:

1. Open Lync Topology Builder.

2. Download the Topology from the existing deployment, or create a new topology if this is a brand-new infrastructure.

3. Expand Lync Server 2013, expand the site where this pool will be located, and expand Lync Server 2013.

4. Right-click on Enterprise Edition Front End Pools, and select New Front End Pool.

5. Click Next and continue with the Define New Front End Pool wizard (see Figure 15.9). Specify a Pool FQDN such as Lyncpool.companyabc.com and click Next.

6. Next, you must define the computers in the pool. These names should be the computer FQDN of all Lync Front End Servers currently part of this pool. Specify the Computer FQDN and click Add for each server in the pool. When finished, click Next. Figure 15.10 provides an example of how the pool members configuration should look in Topology Builder.

7. Specify the services the pool will offer. This can include Conferencing, PSTN Conferencing, Enterprise Voice, Call Admission Control (only one pool per site is allowed to be enabled for CAC), Archiving, and Monitoring. Select all boxes that apply to this pool and click Next.

8. Complete the remaining wizard tasks to deploy your Enterprise Edition pool. For complete details on this process, see Chapter 5, “Microsoft Lync Server 2013 Front End Server.”
