Lync VDI Plugin Installation

The Lync VDI plugin can be downloaded from the Microsoft download site, and is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Use the following procedure to install the VDI plugin on a system that will be used to access VDI desktop sessions with Lync 2013:

1. Log on to the system where the plugin will be installed using an account with local administrator rights.

2. From the Microsoft download site, download the version of the VDI plugin that matches the local hardware, either 32-bit or 64-bit, and save the file to a local subdirectory on the system.

3. Double-click on the downloaded file, named Lyncvdi.exe.

4. At the Read the Microsoft Software License Terms screen, read the software license terms, then click the I Accept the Terms of This Agreement option if you agree to the terms, and click Continue.

5. At the Choose the Installation You Want screen, either click Install Now to install the software using the default settings, or click Customize to choose specific installation options.

6. If you chose to customize the installation in the preceding step, three tabs offering several options for customization are displayed, as shown in Figure 27.6. If there are specific features that will not be installed, this can be configured on the Installation Options tab; click the drop-down menu next to the feature and select Not Available. If a customized installation path for the plugin files is needed, this can be configured on the File Location tab; enter the new path or browse to the desired location. If the user information needs to be adjusted from the default values, this can be configured on the User Information tab. When finished, click Install Now.

7. After the software is installed, click Close.

8. If prompted, click Yes to reboot the system and complete the installation.


Tip

After the plugin is installed, two files named LyncVdiPlugin.dll and UcVdi.dll should be present in the C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice15 directory (for 32-bit installations) or the C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice15 directory (for 64-bit installations).
