Firewall Port Requirements for Lync Online

Another important consideration with regard to planning the network for Lync Online is firewall port requirements. Lync Online does not have any port requirements for inbound traffic; however, many organizations use outbound filters or proxy servers to control the type of traffic that is permitted outbound. If outbound filtering is used, specific ports need to be opened on the firewall or proxy server to allow Lync outbound traffic, as shown in Table 28.4.

Tip

Not all ports listed in Table 28.4 are required for all Lync Online deployments. For example, TCP port 5223 is required only if Lync mobile clients use a corporate Wi-Fi connection for push notifications, and UDP ports 20000 to 45000 are required only if Lync-to-phone will be used with an approved Microsoft voice partner.

As for individual client systems, when the Lync client is installed, the required adjustments are automatically made to the Windows Firewall to enable Lync Online traffic to flow. Therefore, no additional adjustments to the Windows Firewall should be needed.
