The Microsoft Lync Server 2013 Mediation Server is a critical component for providing Enterprise Voice and Dial-In Conferencing services to users. The Mediation Server acts as a back-to-back user agent, translating signaling and media between your internal Lync infrastructure and the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
This chapter focuses on the Mediation Server role and how it interacts with other components of Lync Server 2013. An overview of how the Mediation Server provides connectivity to the PSTN is provided. Additionally, supported Mediation Server configurations are outlined.
This chapter also discusses the steps required to prepare a server for the Mediation Server role and how to actually install a Mediation Server in the environment.
