Chapter 18. Advanced Lync Voice Configuration

Lync Server 2013 is no longer being questioned about whether it can serve as an organization’s Private Branch Exchange (PBX); it offers an exceptional amount of flexibility and control, and becomes a very attractive telephony platform for nearly any business.

With each release, Microsoft has made great strides to address shortcomings of previous versions and improve the overall stability of the product. Lync Server 2013 is no different and builds on an already solid foundation by providing new features such as inter-trunk routing and M:N trunk associations.

This chapter discusses the configuration of Enterprise Voice components found in Lync Server 2013 from dial plans to trunk configurations, and on to more advanced concepts such as Call Admission Control and E911. It also covers the supporting features like dial-in conferencing, Response Groups, and how to configure analog devices.

Tip

This chapter focuses on the administrative steps required to configure each of the voice features. For a more detailed discussion about planning for each of these scenarios, see Chapter 32, “Planning for Voice Deployment.”
