Contact

The Contact menu outlines options and modalities for contacting a user. The action is performed on the selected contact in the user’s contact list. The options include these:

Send an Instant Message—Sends an IM to the selected contact.

Call—Calls the selected contact. It has a submenu that includes the various options and phone numbers for calling the contact.

Start a Video Call—Begins a video conference with the selected contact.

Share Desktop—Starts a desktop sharing session with the selected contact.

Send a File—Sends a file to the selected contact. When this is selected, the application brings up a Finder window enabling the user to choose a file to share.

Send an Email Message—Opens the preferred email client and sends an email addressed to the selected contact.

Schedule a Meeting—Opens a Lync meeting invite and adds the selected user to the To field.

Move Contact To—Opens a submenu with all the groups a user has created. It enables the user to move the contact to a different group.

Copy Contact To—Opens a submenu with all the groups a user has created. It enables the user to copy the contact to a different group while also leaving the contact in the current location.

Block—Prevents all communication to or from the selected contact.

Remove from Group—Removes the selected contact from the current group but leaves the contact in any other groups.

Remove from Contact List—Removes the selected contact from all groups and the contact list completely.

Create New Group—Creates a new contact group in the client. After clicking this option, the user is asked to create a name for the new group.

Rename Group—Enables the user to rename an existing contact group. Available only when a group is selected.

Delete Group—Enables the user to delete an existing contact group. Available only when a group is selected.

View Past Conversations—Shows all previous conversations with the selected contact. Available only if the Save Conversations to Outlook option is also checked.

View Contact Card—Displays the Office contact card for the selected contact.


Note

The Lync:Mac client uses LDAP for retrieving contact information instead of Exchange Web Services like the Windows client. This means that in most environments contact cards are unavailable when outside the corporate network.
