System Requirements

Before the VDI plugin is used, there are prerequisites that must be met for both the virtual machine and the access device used for the VDI session:

• The VDI desktop must be running one of the following operating systems: Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2008 R2 with the latest service pack.

• The access device must be running one of the following operating systems: Windows Embedded Standard 7 with SP1, Windows 7 with SP1, or Windows 8.

• Minimum hardware specs for installing the VDI plugin on an access device include a 1.5GHz processor, 2GB RAM, and either 700MB hard drive space (for the 32-bit plugin) or 900MB hard drive space (for the 64-bit plugin).

• If Remote Desktop Services will be used to host the virtual desktops, the bitness of the Lync VDI plugin must match the bitness of the OS on the access device, either 32-bit or 64-bit accordingly. However, the bitness of the OS on the access device does not need to match the bitness of the OS on the virtual machine. If a different virtualization solution is used to host the VDI desktops, different bitness requirements might apply and will depend on the virtualization solution used.

• If Remote Desktop Services will be used to host the virtual desktops, and the access device is running Windows 7 with SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2, the Windows 8 version of the Remote Desktop Services client should be installed. Before the Windows 8 version of the Remote Desktop Services client is installed, the Windows update described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article #2574819 must first be installed as a prerequisite. After the prerequisite update is installed, the following link can be used to download the Remote Desktop Protocol update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592687.
