Chapter 10. Persistent Chat

For many organizations, the primary focus of a new Lync deployment is the adoption of IM and presence. This is understandable because the brief and simple nature of IM, along with the dynamic nature of presence information, makes for an efficient and flexible means of communication. However, organizations are also increasingly finding that ongoing, persistent communication provides valuable benefits as well, particularly for teams of users who collaborate on projects and share knowledge on specific topics. Lync Server 2013 provides for this form of communication as well, in the form of the Persistent Chat server role.
