Analog Devices
Support for analog device connectivity, a feature added in Lync Server 2010, remains largely unchanged in Lync Server 2013. Since Lync Server is entirely IP-based, FXS/FXO ports must be provided by some kind of media gateway, similar to how connectivity to digital T1/E1 trunks is achieved. This kind of setup allows Lync to support analog phones, fax machines, paging systems, door buzzers, or any other kind of analog telephony device.
The Lync configuration for an analog device consists of creating a contact object via the New-CsAnalogDevice cmdlet, and assigning a Line URI, dial plan, and voice policy just as with a user account. The main difference with an analog device contact is that it also specifies a gateway parameter so Lync knows exactly which gateway to route the call toward in order to reach the analog device.
Note
Any trunk configuration manipulations still apply to calls destined for analog devices through the gateway. Be sure that the gateway configuration of the analog endpoint number accounts for this change.
