Conferencing

The same Polycom feature key for RTV also enabled CCCP (C3P) support in Microsoft Lync organized conferences, so a Polycom HDX could participate in a Lync conference. Users were able to drag and drop an HDX into an existing Lync conference.

Although the HDX can join a Lync conference with the RTV feature key, it does not provide interoperability for all features. Specifically, the sharing modalities for desktop sharing, PowerPoint, whiteboards, and polls do not function for an HDX in a Lync meeting.

However, the fact that Polycom supported this functionality is a significant advantage over competing solutions. LifeSize endpoints can join a Lync conference if the UVC Video Engine is in place, but it does not actually support CCCP like Polycom. All the other vendors can only use multiparty conferencing with Lync endpoints by leveraging a multipoint Control Unit (MCU), discussed later in this chapter.
