Summary

As VDI continues to gain popularity in the enterprise, the importance of ensuring a quality UC experience for VDI users will also increase. Although many efforts have already been made by different vendors to improve the media experience for VDI, developing the Lync VDI plugin was an important step in the right direction for Microsoft. Not only does the VDI plugin enable Lync to be optimized for Microsoft native remote desktop technologies, but it was developed as an extensible solution, such that other VDI vendors can leverage the plugin to develop their own Lync optimized VDI solutions. As a result, the Lync 2013 user experience can be virtually the same whether a local desktop or a remote VDI desktop is used, with various Remote Desktop Protocols and endpoint devices to choose from.
