Memory Recommendations

You can see from the virtual guest requirements that a reasonable amount of RAM is required to meet the needs of the Lync Servers. This memory should be allocated exclusively for each Lync virtual machine. Fortunately, memory is relatively cheap these days. It is recommended to assume that the host OS will occupy around 4GB.

Microsoft does not list a recommended memory for a host machine, but look at your number of cores and virtual machine memory requirements to determine the amount of RAM per host server. The “sweet spot” for amount of RAM for the money is ever changing, but as with all hardware, more is always better; and particularly with database-intensive applications such as Lync, you do not want to be scrimping on memory.

PC3-8500 DDR3 or above speed memory is recommended.
