Small Business Deployment

This topology provides a great value deployment. With Lync Server 2013 pool pairing and resilient Office Web App Servers, you can afford to lose an entire host and quickly recover full functionality. DMZ Host 1 can be physically placed in the DMZ. High-availability of the Edge Server or reverse proxy can be achieved with a second DMZ of the same specification as shown in Figure 29.5.

Although no load balancer is required for Lync Web Services in the Standard Edition model, a load balancer (hardware or software) will be required for the high-availability of the Office Web Apps Server. If the hosts are specified appropriately, a virtual load-balancer appliance could be added to host servers 1 and 2. The requirements on DMZ Host 1 are less so it can be a lower specification physical server. If monitoring or archiving is required, a separate Microsoft SQL server would be required to store the data. A small business deployment could use the following hardware configuration:

Host Servers 1 and 2 Configuration:

• Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V

• 2.26GHz or higher CPU with 10 cores

• 48GB RAM

• 500GB SAS 10K disks with eight spindles

• Four 1GB network adapters

Host Servers 1 and 2, Guest Configuration:

Lync Server 2013 Standard Edition:

• Six CPU cores

• 32GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter

Office Web Apps Server 2013:

• Four CPU cores

• 12GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter

DMZ Host 1 Configuration:

• Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V

• 2.26GHz or higher CPU with six cores

• 32GB RAM

• 500GB SAS 10K disks, eight spindles

• Four 1Gb network adapters

DMZ Host 1, Guest Configuration:
