Enterprise Deployment

In Lync Server 2013, the architecture of a large Enterprise Edition deployment has become much simpler. There are no Archiving, Monitoring, or A/V Conferencing Servers to deploy because all are now collocated and Director is now officially an optional role. In a large virtualized deployment, you scale to four host servers and split out the SQL for Monitoring and Archiving to a dedicated virtual machine for performance reasons. At this scale it is likely Office Web Apps servers would have their own dedicated infrastructure. Although Directors are optional, they have been included because typically they are required for security reasons at this scale of deployment. This architecture is shown in Figure 29.7.

Host Servers 1–4 Configuration:

• Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V

• Dual 2.26GHz or higher CPU with 24 cores

• 128GB RAM

• 500GB SAS 15K disks with 16 spindles, or equivalent SAN storage

• Eight 1Gb network adapters or multiple teamed 10Gb network adapters

Host Servers 1–3, Guest Configuration:

Lync Server 2013 Enterprise Edition:

• Six CPU cores

• 32GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter or equivalent allocated network bandwidth

Lync Server 2013 Director:

• Four CPU cores

• 16GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter or equivalent allocated network bandwidth

Microsoft SQL Server 2012:

• Six CPU cores

• 32GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter or equivalent allocated network bandwidth

Office Web Apps Server 2013:

• Four CPU cores

• 12GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter equivalent allocated network bandwidth

Host Server 4 Configuration:

• Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V

• Dual 2.26GHz or higher CPU with 24 cores

• 96GB RAM

• 500GB SAS 15K disks with 16 spindles, or equivalent SAN storage

• Eight 1Gb network adapters or multiple teamed 10Gb network adapters

Host Server 4, Guest Configuration:

Lync Server 2013 Enterprise Edition:

• Six CPU cores

• 32GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter or equivalent allocated network bandwidth

Lync Server 2013 Director:

• Four CPU cores

• 16GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter or equivalent allocated network bandwidth

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Witness Server:

• Two CPU cores

• 4GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter or equivalent allocated network bandwidth

Microsoft SQL Server 2012:

• Six CPU cores

• 32GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter or equivalent allocated network bandwidth

DMZ Host Server 1 and 2 Configuration:

• Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V

• 2.26GHz or higher CPU with 20 cores

• 64GB RAM

• 500GB SAS 10K disks with eight spindles

• Eight 1Gb network adapters

DMZ Host Server 1 and 2, Guest Configuration:

Lync Server 2013 Edge:

• Four CPU cores

• 16GB RAM

• Two dedicated 1GB network adapters

Forefront TMG Reverse Proxy:

• Four CPU cores

• 8GB RAM

• Dedicated 1GB network adapter
