Defining Mediation Pools

The easiest way to deploy a Mediation pool is to simply collocate the Mediation Server role on a Front End pool. Perform the steps outlined in Chapter 5, “Microsoft Lync Server 2013 Front End Server,” and simply check the box Collocate Mediation Server on the Select Collocated Server Roles page while defining the Front End pool, as shown in Figure 18.1. This approach is recommended when Media Bypass can be used because minimal load is placed on the Mediation Servers.

Alternatively, it is still possible to create a dedicated Mediation pool. Within Topology Builder follow these steps:

1. Right-click on Mediation Pools and select New Mediation Pool.

2. Enter a Pool FQDN, select either Multiple Computer Pool or Single Computer Pool, and click Next.

3. If deploying a multiple computer pool, enter the Computer FQDN of each server and click Add. Click Next when all servers have been added, and click Next.

4. Select a Front End pool as the Next Hop Pool for the Mediation pool, and click Next.

5. If necessary, select an Edge Pool to be used for media traversal by the Mediation pool, and click Next.

6. Click Finish.

If the Mediation pool needs to listen for unsecured TCP SIP connections, follow these additional steps:

1. Right-click the pool and select Edit Properties.

2. Select Enable TCP Port and enter a TCP port range.

3. Click OK.
