Automation Passes

Passes are the name Nuendo uses for each time you perform real-time automation. A pass is created once you start writing automation and ends when playback is stopped. Manual editing of automation events is not considered a pass.

When you enable the Passes feature on the Automation Panel, you can change the panel’s view to show a history of the automation passes you have performed. This is basically another view of Nuendo’s edit history that is restricted to automation passes. (See Figure 15.25.)

If you wish to return to a previous automation pass, you can move the horizontal line up to a point where the desired pass is the last activated one. Other passes will remain in memory but are not active and will be shown grayed out in the list. Passes above the line are active while passes below the line are deactivated.

Caution The Passes history is tied to Nuendo’s global history. When you move the horizontal line to go back to a previous pass, any other edits performed to audio events or any other data in Nuendo between the two passes will also be undone. The passes history is just a convenient way of visualizing the history of automation writing.
