Undo Branches

Branches are a way to try variations on automation passes using a sophisticated undo system. When undo branches are active, passes can be kept on individual branches of an undo tree, allowing you to pick and choose which set of automation passes is the best.

To enable branches, you must have passes enabled. Then choose Use Undo Branches from the Automation Panel settings. (See Figure 15.26.)

When you undo one or more passes with branches active, each pass will be represented as a box in the passes display. Once branches are active, the passes display adds another panel to show the branches. (See Figure 15.27.)

Now you can double-click on any pass, and all necessary branch passes will become active. In this fashion, you can try several variations of automation pass combinations and choose the best without losing the rest.

Note Undo Branches apply to both the automation passes and to the general undo history of Nuendo. Once enabled, undo branches are also visible in the Edit History window. They work in the same fashion but include all editing steps performed, from automation to event editing. This is a very powerful feature and can empower you to explore editing opportunities that might otherwise be difficult or risky to embark upon. (See Figure 15.28.)
