Move To

The Move To commands found under the Edit menu come into use when working with pictures.

Move to Cursor

Since the cursor is such an integral part of Nuendo, it can be used to position events in the project window. If you are viewing a video and find a location of interest where a specific sound should be placed, you can use the Move to Cursor (Ctrl/Command+L) command to instantly move any selected event to the cursor’s position. Using the Transports Scrub mode, you can slide the cursor around the timeline searching for just the right moment for a sound cue and then use the Move to Cursor command to finish the task.

Move to Origin

The Move to Origin command is a bit more involved. The origin of an audio event can be the timeline position in Nuendo where it was recorded originally, or it could also be a timecode value added to the file by a remote field recorder during location filming, commonly known as the timestamp.

The timestamp of all audio files is visible in the Pool in the Origin Time column. (See Figure 12.11.)

In this case, the origin time of the file TLC_2011T08 is 13:27:08:06, or around 1:30 p.m. the day of the shoot, using time of day code in the location recorder. This timecode is also used by the video editing process, so both audio and video can be precisely aligned during editing.

It can be necessary for audio editors to compile the audio files from a field recorder to the edited audio and video files in order to gain access to multi-channel recordings that the video editing team did not use. Some auto-conforming software can do this for you once you have all audio files placed in the timeline at their original timecode or origin positions.

Note The Move to Origin command can also be helpful in music recordings where some audio files have been inadvertently removed from the project and need to be brought back in. In order to return the audio file to its proper position in the timeline, the Move to Origin command is used to place the event where it was originally recorded in the music.
