Zooming

After importing the CD track into the project, you might not be able to see the entire sound file in the project window. You may need to zoom out to see the entire thing. Nuendo’s default key commands for zooming are:

image G = Zoom Out

image H = Zoom In

image Shift+F = Zoom to Entire Project (I think of this as zoom to full view.)

Note One of the really nice things about Nuendo key commands is that they can be simple single-keystroke commands that do not require a modifier key (such as Alt or Control) to function, making their use much quicker and easier. Modifiers are used for many key commands, but they are not required.

Repeatedly hit G to zoom out until you can see the entire CD track. Or you can use the Shift+F command to instantly zoom out to see the entire contents of the project. This is especially handy in larger projects such as feature films where the entire project could be an hour long.

Note that this function zooms out to see every event in a project including automation events, tempo, MIDI, and audio; any type of event that can be present in a project is included. Zoom to full will include every event in the project, so long as it is visible in the project window. If an event is on a track that is not displayed in the project window (such as a hidden automation track) and you use the zoom to full command, that event will not be taken into consideration when determining how far out to zoom.

Note Why G and H? These keys are located in the center of any standard QWERTY keyboard so they are easiest to get to for either hand. Plus, they are centered above the spacebar, which is used for playing and stopping. You will find that the default key command layout has many of these ergonomic considerations factored in to the choice of keys.

The zoom command usually centers around the cursor. So as you zoom in on a project, you will be zooming in around the cursor position. If the cursor is not visible in the project window, then zooming will be focused on the center of the current display area. As soon as you zoom out far enough to see the cursor, it will then become the center focus for zooming. Mess around with this to get a feel for how the zooming works with the imported CD track.

There are a number of other possible zoom commands that may be programmed as key commands. As you develop your workflow style in Nuendo, these commands can be added as you find a need for them. For example, there is a command to zoom to selected (Shift+S), whereby the project window will zoom to all the currently selected events or range.
