Object Selection

Events can be selected and manipulated using the Object Selection tool, shown in Figure 9.1. The Object Selection tool can select one or more events at a time. These events are then ready to be edited in any number of ways, as discussed later in this chapter.

Selected audio events and MIDI parts are outlined in red and display editing handles at the bottom corners (see Figure 9.2). If MIDI “in-place” editing is enabled (see Chapter 11, “MIDI Editing”), then MIDI notes can be selected individually and will be outlined in black.

After you have one or more events selected, the info line at the top of the project window will display data for the topmost and leftmost events in the selection. Editing this data will cause all selected events to be altered.

For example, if you increase the start time in the info line, all selected events will move to the right relative to the top-left event. In Figure 9.3, I have increased the start time by one bar. Notice how all the selected events have moved to the right one bar relative to their original start position.

Caution The key thing to remember is that when multiple objects are selected, changing one object changes them all. Always be aware if you have multiple objects selected. The info line will be displayed in color if more than one object is selected.
