Print Masters

Print masters are the final output files needed for each destination format. In this example, the 5.1 and the stereo mixes are the two print masters that are needed. They are automatically being generated as a result of the routing of the VST Outputs as described in this example.

To generate each print master, you can use the Export Audio Mixdown window. Here, each output can be selected as a source for a mixdown file. If you use the Channel Batch Export option, you can select multiple outputs and export them all in one operation. (See Figure 17.15.)

In this example, we will export both print masters and all of the stem tracks together. Depending on the length of the material, this process could take awhile because each output will require a separate pass. However, you will not have to do anything to make this happen once the export has been initiated. Each exported file will be the same channel width as the output that generated it: Dialog 5.0, SFX 5.1, Lt/Rt stereo, etc.

Use the naming scheme to automatically name each file. When you add the channel name to the project name, unique file names will be created for each output file. (See Figure 17.16.)

Set the left and right locators to encompass the entire film and press Export. All files for the entire film mix will be generated in one process. Use the spare time for another cup of coffee or tea.
