Individual Automation Settings per Channel

As you get more comfortable with the automation system, you might find the need to have multiple channels in write but using different auto punch-out modes. For example, you could have a vocal channel in Trim while all the drum tracks are in Latch mode. Nuendo allows you to choose individual automation modes per channel.

To access this ability, choose an option from the Inspector’s top tab. The automation mode pulldown menu has five choices as seen in Figure 15.39:

image Global. The channel will follow the global automation mode.

image Touch. Individual Touch.

image Auto-Latch. Individual Latch.

image Cross-Over. Individual Cross-Over.

image Trim. Individual Trim.

There is a key command that will toggle selected channels through each individual mode to make switching easier. The one caveat with this is that there is no other indication anywhere in the interface of these individual modes other than the top tab of the Inspector. Working with many channels in individual automation modes can become complex but provides a great deal of flexibility that can speed up large-format workflows.

In the next two chapters, we’ll take a look at both a music mix and a film surround mix and apply techniques from throughout the book to complete each project.
