The left and right locators are fundamental markers in Nuendo. They have prominent icons in the project window and are used for many editing and navigation tasks. The area in between these locators is shaded in the event display to further illustrate their location and the area bounded by them. (See Figure 5.9.)
There are several ways to change the position of the locators. By default, they are both located at the beginning of the project. Here are some of the most-used ways to change their position:
Drag their tabs in the ruler display.
Input values into the Transport panel for each locator. (See Figure 5.10.)
Ctrl/Command+Keypad 1 to set the left locator to the cursor’s position.
Ctrl/Command+Keypad 2 to set the right locator to the cursor’s position.
Press the key command P to set the locators to the start and end of the current selection.
Any of these commands can be performed on the fly while Nuendo is playing. Once the locators are set, it is possible to snap the cursor to either locator’s position by pressing the keypad 1 or 2 to move to the left or right locator position, respectively. This gives you yet another quick way to move about relevant points in the project quickly and with a minimum of keystrokes or mouse movement.
The locators are used to define an area on the timeline that will be used for exporting mixdown files, looping sections, creating cycle markers and performing project-wide editing such as inserting or deleting time.
