Example Scenario

Now that we have covered almost all the points which need to be taken care of when deciding the infrastructural architecture, let us look at an example scenario which will help us to understand the topics in more detail.

Let us continue with the same example we saw in the previous chapter, about the company AB Fashion. Requirement gathering has been done and now it is time to decide the architecture which will need to be implemented to make sure that Qlik Sense is available all the time with the high availability of data.

As a consultant, you ask some questions to business and to yourself and find answers to them to decide the architecture. Following are the questions and answers:

Q1: What is the actual data size of the data sources?

A1: The data source is SAP and the expected size is around 300 GB.

Q2: Out of the entire data, how much data will be used for analysis?

A2: The data which will be required for analytical reporting is around 80 GB.

Q3: What is the rate at which data will grow every year?

A3: With growing business, the data grows at a rate of 10-15 percent every year.

Q4: How many applications will be needed to give data insight to the business?

A4: To cater to all the requirements given by the business users, total 5-6 applications will be required.

Q5: How many overall users will be accessing the applications?

A4: Including the management, the company has decided to share the insight with some other users, like department heads and brand managers. So overall, the user base will be 35.

Q6: At any point of time, how many users will be accessing the application concurrently?

A6: Out of the total 35 users, we will have a maximum of 15 concurrent users, and that too at month end, when monitoring the sales is important.

Q7: What will be the complexity of the application?

A7: From the requirement gathering, it is expected that the complexity of the applications will be moderate.

Q8: Does the management need access to reports from the internet?

A8: Yes, because the management generally travels to multiple locations and they need continuous access to the dashboards.

Q9: Is additional security needed?

A9: Qlik itself will have a login mechanism and licensing, so we donᵩt think we would need any additional security, apart from hosting Qlik Sense on HTTPS.

In addition to these questions and answers, there is some more information which is available:

  • The company uses Active Directory to authenticate its users.
  • The company wants to have the latest version of Qlik Sense installed.
  • It doesn't have extra server for development. The development should happen from Qlik Sense browser.
  • The company has a firewall installed on its network.
  • The company has not bought NPrinting module.
