Supply Chain Management (SCM) covers all the aspects of manufacturing: procurement of raw materials, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution. In short, it covers planning, sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution. The process flow is as shown in the following figure:

Supply Chain in Pharma

The supply chain must ensure maintaining relationships with vendors/suppliers and distribution partners. SCM has to do lot of analysis on procurement, note any quality issues, and ensure quality raw materials and in time delivery of them.

SCM has to keep analyzing performance of various suppliers and ensure proper purchasing decisions. Procurement is a part of SCM. The procurement must keep improving on negotiations and save costs. They should also look out for new vendors and partners. Analyzing logistics is an important area as well and can help in cost reduction and improved efficiencies.
