Summary

This chapter is important for a consultant. Often the consultant puts in lot of efforts and hard work to make his project a success. The intention of the book is to help the consultant achieve this via best practices.

This chapter should be revisited often by a consultant, as during the course of a project, the finer aspects, which are often the pitfalls for a project, get missed out. It helps the consultant to avoid the common mistakes which lead to pitfalls in a project. The chapter covered areas which the consultant may have never known are important, like art of listening. The chapter also touched upon other areas, such as importance of documenting and avoiding over commitments.

In this chapter we looked at one of the aspects which often throws project schedule haywire, the unexpected surprises. Lastly, we looked at the importance of hand holding and enabling the end user to confidently use and best utilize the software. This also holds lot of advantages for the consultant.

The next chapter is aimed to help the consultant gather some information in various domains, such as pharma, retail, and BSFI (banking sector and financial institutes). It will help the consultant to have a better conversation with the business users. The knowledge gathered in the chapter will also help them in understanding the requirements better and  suggesting value-adds. The chapter will try to cover the use cases relevant to these domains and help the consultant to relate to business terminologies.
