Qlik Sense Administration training

Similar to how a consultant should identify an internal user for Qlik Sense product and business training, another user should be identified for managing Qlik Sense administration. This user can be the same user as earlier or can be different.

Qlik Sense Administration is another ongoing activity which needs attention. The ongoing tasks include:

  • Assigning licenses to newer users
  • Blocking the users who have left the company
  • Creating streams
  • Publishing applications
  • Creating tasks
  • Writing security rules
  • Managing content libraries
  • Checking uptime
  • Performing ongoing auditing

The consultant must make the admin user comfortable with all the routine tasks. For larger organizations, it might become difficult for one person to manage everything, and as a best practice, the administration might be delegated. Qlik Sense has few default built-in roles for the Qlik Management Console. The roles are:

  • RootAdmin
  • ContentAdmin
  • DeploymentAdmin
  • AuditAdmin
  • SecurityAdmin

As explained in the previous section, the users who will manage the QMC (Qlik Management Console) should be trained separately. The admin user should be aware of Qlik Sense deployment options and load balancing, and should be familiar with adding new nodes.

The training should be interactive and the consultant must also explain the architecture of Qlik Sense and its various components. The consultant must explain practical situations which the admin will encounter. The consultant must give sample requirements and ask the admin to create the same. An example situation could be: Assign Qlik Sense token to user Mark. Mark should have access to Sales and Marketing stream and should not have access to Finance stream. Mark should not be able to export data. Mark should not be able to create new applications, but should be able to publish his custom sheets to other users in Sales/Marketing streams.

Training should also cover the following aspects:

  • Qlik Sense installation on central nodes and rim nodes
  • Qlik Sense up-gradation
  • Proxies, virtual proxies, and authentication mechanisms
  • Backup and restoration
  • User directory connectors
