The BABOK® v3 Guide defines the term enterprise as a system of one or more organizations and the solutions they use to pursue a shared set of common goals.
The solutions being referred to in this definition can include processes, tools, or information. An enterprise can be a number of organizations, governments, or any other type of organization.
An example of an enterprise could be a large banking corporation that consists of many different smaller companies operating under the same umbrella company – local banks, investment banks, insurance companies, and so forth could all be part of the same enterprise.
