When should you apply this technique?

This technique is used in a few different business analysis tasks in some knowledge areas of the BABOK® v3 guide. These tasks include the following:

To help identify who should be consulted when preparing for the elicitation activities, as well as who should be part of the elicitation and what their roles might be

Manage stakeholder collaboration

To work out who should be involved and to what degree they should be involved in the business analysis work

Specify and model the requirements

To identify and understand the stakeholders' needs in more detail

 

This technique is used to identify the specific people required for requirements elicitation and helps with the planning of collaboration, communication, and any facilitation activities that need to be performed. It is also an effective way of getting to know your stakeholders (and some specific people) in order to get a deeper understanding of their business needs.

The next technique you must include in your preparation is state modeling.
