When should you apply this technique?

Data flow diagrams are often used as a way of helping to discover processes and data and are generally a technique that is easy to understand for most stakeholders. Using a data flow diagram is also a good way of defining the system boundaries and demonstrates where any interactions with other systems may exist.

The next technique you need to include in your preparation is data mining.
