When should you apply this technique?

To help identify problems and their associated causes to better be able to find an appropriate solution to help address them

Analyze the performance measures

To assist with identifying the cause of performance-related issues

Assess the solution limitations

To identify the causes and factors that contribute to a solution not reaching the potential value intended

Assess the enterprise limitations

To see whether an underlying cause of a problem relates to an enterprise limitation

 

This technique helps stakeholders and teams determine the true causes of issues and business problems in a structured, logical fashion. It creates a visual representation of the issues at hand and provides a tool for preparing solution options.
