Key things to know when using this technique

There are two types of questions to include in a survey—open-ended and close-ended. As the terms imply, a close-ended question is when a question expects a specific, pre-defined answer (such as yes or no) and an open-ended question is when the question invites an open answer that elaborates on and describes a response in more detail.

A survey or questionnaire requires careful planning in terms of the objective of the survey, the questions, the type, the audience (including a sample group), the timeline, the distribution methods, the testing of questions, and so on. Once the survey has been conducted, the results should be documented and the data should be captured in a meaningful way. Wherever relevant, the survey results should be shared with the stakeholders.
