This technique is used in a few different business analysis tasks in some knowledge areas in the BABOK® v3 guide. These tasks include the following:
Task |
The reason this technique is used |
Conduct elicitation |
To understand the interaction and the specific characteristics of the interaction between two components. This can be between two people, two systems, or even between two organizations. |
Assess the requirement changes |
To help identify any changes that may be required in the interactions between entities when requirements change. |
Specify and model the requirements |
To model inputs, outputs, and any validations or transformations that occur between entities. |
Performing interface analysis provides a clear specification of the interfaces of a system or a collection of systems. It assists in providing a reference or guide for further analysis and can focus analysis efforts on only the areas required to avoid over-analysis.
The next technique you need to include in your preparation is interviews.
