Element 9: Internal assets

When you consider the element of internal resources in the context of defining the future state, you will see that the role of the business analyst here is to assess the existing capabilities and resources the organization has and whether there is a need to increase or change those resources to support the future state. This also includes an assessment of whether the existing capabilities and resources can be reused as part of the desired future state.

Let's look at a straightforward practical example. Consider a courier company that would like the capability to double the number of weekly deliveries as part of the desired future state. The question in terms of the internal assets or capabilities then becomes: To achieve these delivery numbers in the future, would the current number of courier vehicles and drivers be sufficient?

In this example, the business analyst considers the internal assets within the current state to see whether it would be sufficient to support the desired future state.
