Core competency 4: Listening

Listening is about a business analyst's ability to actively listen and interpret the meaning of the words they hear. It is about being engaged with the stakeholder in a way that supports effective communication, building a sense of rapport, and distilling information so that it presents a clear meaning. 

Active listening includes being able to summarize and confirm that what the business analyst heard is, in fact, the message and meaning of the sender of the information. This fosters a sense of common understanding, which could be used to build and develop stronger and more robust information sharing.
