CALLOUT
ˈkȯl-ˌau̇t, n
A brief passage of text, often accompanied
by a line and/or an arrow, used as a label to
identify various key parts of a photo, illustra-
tion, or other type of artwork used in a layout.
The term is also used for referring to portions
of the text that are pulled out of the main text
and given special emphasis, perhaps by way
of a different typeface, color, size, etc. See
also caption and pull quote.

BULLET
ˈbu̇-lət, n
A typographic character (•) used most com-
monly to designate items in a list (called, not
surprisingly, a bulleted list), although bullets
are also sometimes used to separate short,
sequential lines of type, such as an address on
a letterhead. In either case, a space should be
used between the bullet and the type. Bullets
are generally included with symbol and ding-
bat fonts. See also hanging punctuation.
