The insertion of nonsensical, or “dummy,”
text as a placeholder during the layout pro-
cess. The term is also used for describing the
way some page-layout applications use gray
bars to represent lines of type too small to be
rendered clearly for a given display or view.

GRAYSCALE

An image comprised of varying shades of
gray, white, and black. Color photographs
can be converted to grayscale images
digitally by way of software applications that
