The path that one’s eyes follow as they view a
photograph or layout. Eye fl ow is infl uenced
by a number of factors, including color, bal-
ance, contrast, and more. Effective designs
take advantage of anticipated eye fl ow; way-
nding signs, for example, need to be simple
and direct, while posters often engage viewers
