The process of modifying the color in a
digital photograph or scanned image either
to achieve a more accurate representation
of the original subject or to match the color
range (or gamut) of the printing technology
being used.

COLOR

The different wavelengths of light perceived
by the human eye. Objects are perceived as
having a particular color as a result of their
ability to absorb, refl ect, or transmit different
wavelengths of light. The three basic proper-
ties of color are hue, saturation (or chroma),
and brightness (also called value or tone).
Color is also used by typographers when
referring to the overall lightness or darkness
of a page of type, or that of one paragraph
relative to another. See also color wheel.

COLLAGE
kə-ˈläzh, n
A technique used to create an original artwork
by assembling paper, fabric, photography, or
other media on a board or canvas, often in
unexpected ways. The name is derived from
the French coller, meaning “to stick.” Collages
can also be created digitally by “sticking” any
number of digital elements, often scanned
images of textural, three-dimensional objects,
together in the same spirit of bricolage. See
